Here’s a summary :

Taste whiskies from several of Islay’s distilleries (there’s loads of whisky included) and enjoy this unique island. The Hebridean hospitality, delicious seafood and stunning scenery make Islay a very special place. There’s also a local brewery and one of the distilleries now produces dry botanical gin, so there’s something for everyone.

Thursday

  • Late morning airport pickup; swift departure to Fyne Ales, an award winning craft brewery on the shores of Loch Fyne
  • Evening crossing to the island of Islay, check in at our modern, comfortable cottages
  • Visit Port Charlotte’s finest local establishment

Beer:
Visit Fyne Ales Brewery Tap sampling our way through the Classic range, the IPAs and perhaps a special seasonal brew. There will be an opportunity to sample some homemade meat pies and vegetarian quiche lovingly made with the farms own produce.

Whisky:
We are staying a 5 minute walk from one of Scotland’s best whisky bars

Friday on Islay

Whisky:

  • Lagavulin warehouse experience included– sample the special collections direct from the cask
  • Laphroaig distillery tour included – visit one of only two distilleries which floor malt and enjoy their cosy lounge
  • Ardbeg tour included – taste some of the most interesting whiskies on the island

Beer: chance to sample some of the island’s own brews from Islay Ales

Saturday on Islay

Clear the cobwebs with a visit to Machir Bay, one of Islay’s stunning white(ish) sand beaches

Then start again with Whisky:

  • Bruichladdich distillery tour – calls itself the most progressive distiller on the island; plus taste Islay’s newest tipple, Bruichladdich botanical gin
  • Kilchoman – visit Islay’s newest farm distillery
  • Bowmore distillery tour – floor maltings and beautiful views from the tasting room

Sunday departure day

9am crossing back to the mainland, followed by a beautiful Highland drive, taking in Loch Lomond and the high pass towards Loch Fyne

Lunch: visit the original Loch Fyne Restaurant: delicious fish & seafood, plus other fine choices, nice wine list (lunch and drinks at own expense)

Return to Glasgow airport late afternoon

What’s included:

  • Three nights in very modern, cottage-style accommodation. Two and three bedroom cottages. All doubles are ensuite. Where a twin room is not ensuite it has exclusive use of its own family bathroom
  • Tour transportation starting and ending at Glasgow airport
  • Loads of whisky tastings and tours
  • Local recommendations – including best (post-whisky) place to swim in the sea. No joke. Bring your swimming gear

What’s not included:

  • Breakfast, lunches & dinners. Cottages are self-catering so we’ll stop to pick up breakfast grub. Lunch and dinner can be purchased at distillery cafés or at the local pubs.
  • Personal travel insurance, it’s recommended that you have some

Price:

Typically we charge £550 per person but it depends on the group size; our minimum group size for this tour is 6 passengers
